| Hawaiian Vacation Rental |
| Aloha and welcome to our Cottage House located in the Rainforest of Leilani Estates on the island of Hawai’i (The Big Island)! We are approximately 5 minutes from the historic town of Pahoa and approximately 30 minutes south of Hilo. Hilo town pretty much has all the restaurants and shopping of larger towns like Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Ross, and of course, the fast food chain industry. What sets it aside is old charm of Hilo which is the draw of many visitors. We also really enjoy the "Old Town, Wild West" Of historic Pahoa. We have our own Post Office, as well as great restaurants. Such as: "Luquin's," which has great Mexican cuisine, "Palo's,” Italian Food, "Ming's,” Thai food and our newest and most fantastic chef's cuisine, "Kaleo's." Everything on their menu is absolutely mouthwatering and do not miss out on their desserts! The shops in Pahoa are all so unique that you’re bound to go home with some great gifts for your friends and family. There’s also a new addition to Pahoa called the Malama Market center. Malama Market has a very good selection of groceries, as well as a fresh deli counter. Great for grabbing some sandwiches, salads and drinks for those day drives or picnic stops around the island. The market center also has a Subway and an Aloha Gas Station. Don’t forget to try ‘Fresh Fish & Chips’ where their food is caught daily from the Pahoa Fresh Fish store! Not too far away from where you’d be staying is Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. This is where you can get up close and personal by hiking around to witness the past and present volcanoes. This park displays the results of 70 million years of volcanism and evolution. The current lava flow from the Kilauea summit has been flowing since 1982. The flow changes and moves from time to time, between land flows to flows entering the ocean. Evening viewing of the flow is always an awakening experience and makes you realize how alive and growing our island still is. Not to worry though, on our land some of our Ohia trees are over 100 years old and we hope they will continue on with their aging process. While staying with us, even if you are here for a few short days, don't pass up the scenic drive down what the locals call "The Red Road." This road links you to several beautiful sights and activities. At the northern start of the road there’s a 4x4 road which will lead you to the infamous Champagne Pond. This is a thermal heated pond where Sea Turtles are known for taking a swim in and it’s a great place to relax. After the starting point of “The Red Road,” the next stop would be in sunny Kapoho. Here you get to enjoy some of the best snorkeling on the Island and a series of large interconnected thermal heated tide pools called “The Waiopae Tide Pools.” After you soaked up Kapoho, a little farther down the road is the “Ahanalui Pool.” This is one of the more popular thermal heated ponds and there are restrooms, showers and a picnic area. Then, just a few minutes farther down the road is Pohoiki Bay. There’s a small boat ramp here where they do tours down to the Kalapana Coast and back. This Bay also has a couple of small hot ponds, perfect for a couple of people. For all you surf lovers, this is the spot to hit. It’s known for having great surf. Who loves camping? Well then, head a little farther down from Pohoiki and you will find MacKenzie State Park. This is definitely a peaceful little park where you can enjoy the view of the ocean from up on the cliffs. Love fishing? This is an excellent spot for it. From there, the road continues on a beautiful old Hawaiian drive towards Kalapana. This town was taken out by the volcano that still flows today. Along this drive is Kehena Black Sand Beach which is a clothing optional beach. At the end of the road (you will know when the road ends and lava begins) is Kalapana Village Café. A great place to eat, grab a drink and/or try their local made ice creams. Across the street from the Café is a lava path that leads you out to "New Kaimu." This new and fascinating forming black sand beach is awesome!! The water can be very wild, so use precautions. It’s a short 10 minute walk out and worth the viewing. From there, you can then come back up Hwy. 130 and it will bring you back to Leilani Estates, or Pahoa. The Cottage House includes many comforts and amenities, such as a large screen television, with a current DVD collection that you may loan free from us. The kitchen is full use, with all utensils, dish ware, cookware and condiments. We also supply the paper goods like toilet paper, paper towels, etc. NOTE: If you are staying longer than one week, we only supply beginning paper product supplies. The upstairs is a loft bedroom. It has a queen-size bed and waking up here feels as though you are in a tree house! The front lanai has a gas cook grill. While the back lanai has a wonderful jetted Jacuzzi hot tub which faces the view of the forest and our growing botanical collection of plants! If you need Internet service and do not want to bring a lap top, we have a high speed computer set up in the guest house near our main house for everyone’s use. If you choose to bring your lap top, you may use it in the guest house or near the main house and you will catch our high speed service signal. When visiting, please feel free to lose yourself by wandering around our trails and beautiful garden settings. Jerry loves to give tours through the garden if you’re interested. We have a collection of many rare and endangered species of palms and plants from around the world. Some of which you may not see any where else because of the disappearance of many rain forests. Also enjoy our outdoor cabana, draped with mosquito netting. It is a good afternoon place or rainy day place to take a book and read (or fall asleep) in! It is also a great place for yoga enthusiasts. Here is a little history about our property: We are the owners and your hosts, Jerry and Cindy Andersen. We purchased this property in 2001 and had a lot of renovation to do. The landscaping and most of the work here has been done by the two of us. We have hired little outside help with this property. After renovating the Cottage house, we found our main house behind the Cottage property which was also in an awful despair and began renovating it as well. This is when we decided to open the Cottage to visitors. We enjoy having guests and try to have each visitor over to our home for Pu-Pu's and drinks or if they are staying longer, a wonderful dinner evening! It is not unusual for our guests to see us daily working in our garden. This has become both our passion and we feel so fortunate to be able to share our paradise with you. Hope to hear from you soon! Aloha! OUR RATES: Nightly: $95.00 (minimum stay is 3 nights) This is for adults only. Sorry, we can not accommodate children. The rates are based on double occupancy. For additional adults, please add $10.00 per adult, per night. The maximum is four persons. There is also a "clean-out" non-refundable fee of $80.00. |
